Humm. This picture seems to have been touched up - mostly by airbrush, as it used to be done in those pre-Photoshop days.

It reminds me of some of the “concept” poxy images that used to appear in the press from time to time in the eighties, maybe early nineties.

Which does not mean that a proper clay or even metal mock-up of that particular design proposal does not exist.

I agree. At the time Porsche was on a shoe string budget and it was for internal eyes only I’m sure.

Is this the styling mockup of the “baby 959" that was supposed to have come between the 964 and the 993? I remember seeing pictures of a red development mule with stickers of a (non-existent) German tuner, but I understand that prototype was ultimately destroyed.

Such an interesting picture. If only that turntable in Weissach could talk...

That is exactly the car I meant, although I had no knowledge of this particular complete unit. The image I had in my head is that of the red car with the engine lid open that appears in page 115 of the June 2005 issue of Excellence, as seen here:

Obviously the red one (I vaguely remember the 965 designation was mentioned somewhere in the article I saw) must have been mostly a prototype for the mechanical layout etc, whereas the black car above is a lot closer to a definitive production model.

What I can assure you is that when I read about the red car there was no indication of any extant prototypes for that cancelled model.

My favourite is the styling mockup of the 989:

Without going into the discussion whether it was right or not to axe that project, one can only wonder what Bez could have done at Porsche had he stayed. Also this car is a whole order of magnitude more elegant than the bloody Panamera.
